It is not an accident that I have never met a mature, fruitful, robust, or spiritually discernible Christian who is not full of Scripture, devoted to daily meditation on Scripture, and given to storing it in the heart through Bible memorization. Therefore, what I want to do is convince our new believer friend that it is absolutely necessary, after coming to faith in Christ, to be radically, deeply, experientially devoted unshakably, unwaveringly persuaded that reading and meditating on and understanding and memorizing and enjoying the Scriptures is absolutely necessary for the Christian life, which would include being in the word every day with the goal that we will meet God there and, little by little, the glory of God; that enjoying the Scripture
And even though it could be evident to them or to other people, it isnt obvious to me since I know Christians who are very mature in their faith who dont do this. They claim to be Christians, but they dont act like it, and theyve been believers for years. Theyre lax. They believe it to be unnecessary due to the fact that they have so much prior knowledge and read so many other books. That is not, in my opinion, a very good pattern of behavior at all. I believe that it poses a threat.
Here are Ten Good Reasons to Read Each and Every Day
Therefore, I have 10 reasons why I believe this; ten reasons why the reading of the Bible, the comprehension of the Bible, and the memorization of the Bible should be fundamental components of the life of a Christian. Fight against emotions of adequacy that tell you, I dont need to read the Bible every day. I have ten grounds for saying this.
- Scripture saves.
Maintain a vigilant eye not just on yourself but also on the instructor. Continue doing this, because if you do, you will not only save yourself but also the people who are listening to you. (16 Thessalonians 2:1)
Scripture is the means by which God continually saves us.
The salvation of Gods people has already taken place, the salvation of Gods people is taking place at this very minute, and the salvation of Gods people will take place in its entirety at the resurrection of Gods people, and it is taking place right now through means. Paul encourages believers to steadfastly adhere to the teaching in order to secure their salvation. Scripture is the means by which God continually saves us.
- Liberates people from the influence of Satan.
You will have awareness of the truth, and your awareness of the truth will liberate you. (John 8:32)
And the context is that Jesus is demonstrating to the Jewish leaders that, despite the fact that they believe they are not slaves, You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your fathers wants (You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your fathers desires) (John 8:44). You, as a young Christian, have an adversary in Satan. It is impossible for you to compete with his strength on any level. Therefore, John writes the following to the new believers:
I am writing to you, young men, because you are courageous, the word of God dwells in you, and you have triumphed over the adversary. (1 John 2:14)
This is our only chance of prevailing against a foe with otherworldly origins. Every time Jesus was tempted by the devil (Matthew 4:111; Mark 1:1213; Luke 4:113), he fought back with the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God (Ephesians 6:17). Since he had it memorized, he didnt need to carry a book with him while he was in the wilderness. Matthew 4:111; Mark 1:1213; Luke 4:113.
- Scripture bestows grace and tranquility upon its readers.
I pray that the knowledge of God and of Jesus, who is our Lord, may bring you an abundance of grace and peace. (2 Peter 1:2)
Grace and the knowledge of God that is received via Scripture are not the same thing, but Peter adds that the former is a means of the latter. Peter tells us that in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord is where we will find the divine grace that will make us powerful and at peace with ourselves. That information is only found in one location, and that is the Bible.
- Scripture sanctifies.
The Lord Jesus prayed,
Consecrate them in the truth, since what you say is the truth. (John 17:17)
The handling of the word of God is assigned to each one of us in some capacity,
Sanctification is the process of becoming holy, or becoming more like Christ and like God, who is perfect in his holiness. This is accomplished by becoming more like Christ. This is something that must be done. It is written in the book of Hebrews chapter 12 verse 14, Strive for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord.
Even if we wont reach perfection in this life, we can strive to live holy lives. God sets apart his people as holy. And Jesus prayed to his Father, Sanctify them in the truth; your word is true. (Sanctify them in the truth) It is not possible to state it any more clearly or emphasize its significance.
- Scripture offers gladness.
You endured tremendous suffering in order to accept the message, and the joy of the Holy Spirit was upon you. (6th verse of 1 Thessalonians)
His focus is fixed on the Lords law, and he thinks about it continuously throughout the day and night. (Psalm 1:2)
A life devoid of joy is one that cannot be endured. The life of a Christian is one that is filled with many trials and tribulations. But in each and every one of them, God keeps joy alive, and he does so by means of the Scriptures.
- Scripture safeguards us against damaging error.
Until such time as we all arrive at the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God in order that we may no longer be children, being thrown back and forth by the seas and being carried about by every wind of teaching. (Ephrem 4:1314)
How can young Christians prevent themselves from being like leaves that are blown around by the cultural winds and theological opinions? Answer: the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, which refers to the knowledge that people experience, not as the opinion of man, but as the word of God. The Bible is the only place youll find this information.
- The Bible provides our best chance for eternal life.
And by this, I mean that the only place where one will attain a complete comprehension as well as a complete pleasure of the truth that is found in the Bible is heaven.
Now I have some knowledge, but in the future, I will have complete knowledge, just as others have complete knowledge of me. 1 Corinthians chapter 13 verse 12
We will not be deprived of the knowledge of God permanently. This includes all the fulness that a created creature can properly perceive and experience as a result of having been formed. Our current restrictions on understanding and enjoyment will no longer be a source of aggravation, and they will be lifted. How appropriate, then, that we should be steadily progressing right now in what will be our ultimate source of happiness in the age that is yet to come.
- Some people wont accept the Bible at face value.
The moment is coming when individuals will no longer be able to put up with solid teaching, and instead, in order to scratch their own itch, they will seek out professors who cater to their own interests. 2 Timothy chapter four verse three
That is to say, we need to be familiar with the Scriptures so that we will not be caught off guard, knocked off balance, or led astray by those who preach contrary doctrine. In order to be ready for people who refuse to receive the Scriptures, we need to consistently receive them ourselves.
- God gives his blessing to those who properly interpret the Bible.
To the extent that it is in your power, endeavor to present yourself to God as someone who is acceptable, a worker who has no reason to be embarrassed, and who handles the word of truth in the correct way. (15 of Second Timothy)
It is a priceless thing to be given the responsibility of performing a very significant assignment, and then to discover that the master worker is pleased with the work that you have been ordered to perform by him. To varying degrees, each one of us has been entrusted with the responsibility of handling the word of God. What a fantastic chance we have to do what is right in the eyes of the Lord!
- The Scriptures are the source of life and its sustenance.
No longer will man live solely on bread; rather, he will live by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. Matthew 4:1
Not by eating bread, but by hearing and meditating on the words of God is the only way to sustain not only physical life, but also eternal life. You have a misunderstanding of what spiritual life is if you believe that you have eternal life as a type of immunization against hell, which does not require any form of feeding.
Therefore, there are ten reasons why younger Christians should make it a point to resolve with all their might all the might that God gives them to make it an essential, non-negotiable part of their Christian life to read, meditate on, understand, and memorize the Scriptures. This includes both the Old and New Testaments.
